Learn How To Snack Right, Lose Weight & Eat Clean!
Snacking is not always a bad thing. The problem that most people run into is that they snack on the wrong foods. This article we shared below was originally published on eZineArticles and it covers some very important topics to make sure that you are on track and living clean the paleo way.
Don't worry, you can snack as often as you like, but you need to know these secrets to make sure you are doing it right. We hope you enjoy the read and we hope these simple changes in your lifestyle can help you start reaching your health goals quicker and with less work. If you are somebody who is used to having a bag of chips next to your favorite chair or candy in your desk drawer, this article is just what you have been missing. Remember to take the steps outlined below and you will no longer have to worry about having strong willpower to succeed.
It is no secret that eating junk food and unhealthy snacks throughout the day, can curb the success of any healthy diet. The fact that many people snack often amplifies this negative effect. Most Americans reach for a snack between 3 - 5 times daily. Depending on what those snacks are you can help or hurt your overall success with your dietary goals or weight loss plan. Learning how to make smarter decisions in these "snack attack" times, will help ensure your goals are met and your craving are satisfied.
Is Snacking Bad For Me?
No, it certainly isn't. Most people have times through the day where they need extra energy, they need to make it to the next meal but can't leave their workplace or simply did not have enough to eat at a previous meal time. Snacking often can actually help your metabolism and help your body naturally burn more calories on autopilot. This in mind, snacking is a great idea if you choose what foods you snack on wisely.
What Should I Be Snacking On?
This is a good question, but a better question is, "What should I not be snacking on?" This is where most people run into trouble. Reaching for chips, candy or other common snacks is generally where people go wrong. The snacks that get the most promotion and advertising are the exact ones you don't need to eat. Think about it, these companies are paying millions of dollars to make an impression on you to be sure you will think about their brand when you are looking for something tasty. After all carrots, nuts and berries don't need advertised, as they are just good for you, it really should be a no brainer, but it's not.
How To Divert Your Hands To Healthy Snacks
This is really easy to do. Most people never really think about why they keep running to the pantry for potato chips, but the answer is "Because They Are There". I know that is probably not the answer and yes you can call me Captain Obvious, but it is the simple truth. If you replace all the harmful, unhealthy snacks in your home, with ones that rejuvenate and give you energy, these will be the ones that you will come to when you need an afternoon boost.
It just take a little bit of house cleaning to make sure your future snacking habits are better than your previous ones. In fact, most people will never miss the old junk food as long as there is something tasty and healthy to replace it.

What Are The Benefits Of The Paleo Diet Lifestyle?
When you see a good article you share it right? This article was recently posted on a popular article site and it addresses some major concerns with the foods that most people are consuming today. The interesting thing is that none of the problems that people run into with these chemicals are an issue if you are following the paleo lifestyle. These are just some of the main reasons people choose to live clean and healthy like our ancestors did. Give it a read and comment below with your thoughts!
Benefits Of Following The Paleo Diet Lifestyle
By Nick Simpson
The paleo diet really is more of a lifestyle than a true diet. Its main goal is a healthy living, not direct weight loss. However, this is for many, a side effect of making the required eating habit changes to one's daily diet. There are many benefits to living the paleo way and we will discuss that further in this very article. If you are interested in living a happier, more mentally alert and healthier life, then please keep reading.
The automatic result of changing eating habits to the foods our Paleolithic ancestors ate is, we no longer get bombarded with the complex and dangerous chemicals that are commonly added to the most popular foods in today's grocery stores. It is believed that our bodies have not evolved to properly process many of these chemicals. On the other hand, many of these chemical are plain old Dangerous to our bodies and mental capacity.
Eating real food, not processed foods, will make a noticeable and positive change to your mental and physical health. As stated earlier, this is not technically a diet plan, more of a lifestyle based around making healthy choices to fuel your body with the best wholesome foods possible. The results for many do include weight loss, but please consider the points below when considering what the paleo diet really has to offer to you and anybody who takes the proper steps to make changes in their own life.
Food Coloring May Be Pretty, But...
Did you know many of the most common foods (not found on the paleo diet food list) have food coloring added to them to make them look appetizing? This alone does not sound dangerous, but the actual chemicals to obtain these colors are very problematic. In the 1970's the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) banned red dye no. 2 because it was found that in high doses it would actually cause cancer in laboratory rats. The yellow no. 5 dye was found to increase hyperactivity in children by a British study in 2007 and to worsen asthma symptoms by studies that go back to the 1950's.
Naturally Sweet, Just Makes Sense
High fructose corn syrup has received a lot of negative media in the past few years and for good reason. This sweetener that is derived from corn, an alternative to natural sugar from sugar cane, has some major health concerns connected to it. This sweetener is found in soft drinks, junk food and just about anything that is sweet and carries a decent shelf like at the grocery store. It has been connected to the raise of obesity in America and the body does not metabolize it in the same way as sugar based sweeteners.
Mercury contaminants are found in it and this has yet to be regulated by the FDA. The companies that use this in their foods have spent millions to "educate" the public on its safety, yet the extraction process is still secret and unknown to all. This additive is almost exclusively used in poor quality "food like substances", so that should be enough for you to know you need to stay away from it.
Salty &Healthy Don't Belong In The Same Sentence
Americans love salt. There I said it. Many people love to put extra salt on foods that are already doused with butter (which normally already contains salt) to bring out this familiar taste. There are many dangers of high sodium diets. The most apparent is the hypertension or high blood pressure (that leads to heart issues) that is associated with too much salt in one's diet. In mature adults, high salt intake can lead to premature cognitive decline. Salt also changes the way your kidneys function, not allowing it to regulate the release of water to the body as normal and can lead to kidney stones. Salt can even lead to a skin condition called edema. This condition causes swelling of the extremities.
Living The Paleo Life
There are many other reasons that the paleo diet has become one of the most popular ways to change your health. The reasons discussed here are just the tip of the iceberg. The real magic starts when you realize that removing the things that have a negative impact on your health are magnified by adding more of the healthy vitamins and nutrients found in the foods that are paleo approved. Changing your lifestyle takes time and of course some work, but hopefully you have found enough reasons here that you find the determination to move forward with some healthy changes starting today!
Many people have already realized the benefits of making healthier choices to change the way they look and feel. If you want to be leaner and more mentally tough, it may be time to make some changes in your own lifestyle. Paleo Friendly Stuffed Portobello Mushrooms Recipe
Just like any food, if you like it you love it and if you don't like you can do without. Portobello mushrooms are pretty delicious if you ask me. However, some people are not big fans of any mushroom. This is usually due to the texture of a mushroom. However, we I really think that if you are on the fence about mushrooms, this dish may change your mind. It offers a great paleo recipe with some great flavor that will not mask the mushrooms natural flavor, but definitely gives it more to enjoy for those who are not completely sold on portobello's.
This main course dish, should of course be accompanied by some fresh green side. Many people find a salad or a green bean dish to be the most appropriate, but the choice is up to you!
• 4 large or 6 small portobello mushrooms
• 3 slices of bacon, cut into ½” pieces
• 2 cup asparagus, cut into 1” pieces
• 1 small red pepper, chopped
• 1 onion, chopped
• 1 cup homemade chicken stock Marinade
• 2 tbsp soy sauce, optional
• 2 tbsp olive oil
• 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
• 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
• salt and pepper to taste
1 Remove mushroom stems and spoon out the gills (brown part under the cap).
2 Combine all ingredients for marinade. Mix well.
3 In a large bowl or bag, put in the mushroom caps and cover with marinade. Allow to sit for 10 minutes.
4 Place oven rack in the center of oven and preheat to 400 F.
5 In a large skillet, fry bacon. Once finished, remove and cut into pieces.
6 In the same skillet, over medium heat, add asparagus, pepper and onion. Saute for a few minutes and then add the chicken broth. Bring to a boil and then reduce heat to low. Continue to cook until broth has been absorbed.

Paleo Diet Is Great For People Seeking Low Carb Diets
Between many popular diets in the past 15 years, there have been more than one that focus on lowering carbohydrate intake. This is not a fad, the fact that most people overeat and one of the easiest indulgences include high carb foods like bread, potato chips, cereals, cakes and even dried fruits. The fact is, we do need carbohydrates in our diets. After all, they do give the body the energy it needs to function as well as assist with blood clotting, fertilization and other natural functions of the body. The problem is that many times the excess or overutilization of carbohydrates in our diet can lead to obesity, lethargic feelings and may even be an assisting cause of some cancers.
We are not here to frown on the Atkins Diet or the South Beach Diet, but it is interesting that there are so many diets with a similar focus on controlling such intake. When in fact, many believe the Paleo Diet is the simplest approach that also provides some other secrets that many miss out on. If you work a strict Caveman Diet, you will also be missing out on all the chemical additives that are commonly found in almost all food at a grocery store these days. These coloring, preserving and flavor adding chemicals are not what our bodies have been trained to process and many, simply put, are harmful.
It is, of course, important for you to take the time to do your own research to make sure you find a diet plan that aligns with your own beliefs and goals. You may just want to focus on not eating unhealthy things to start with. Small changes are usually the easiest and then you can build stronger habits as you go. If you can maintain a week without eating any junk food, that may be a great first goal and in the meantime looking at other dietary options you may find how to best proceed.
The one thing, that really makes the Paleo Diet stand out, is the fact that it is all natural. Most diets look to fads or simply using chemicals to temporarily trick the body. This may produce what seems to be fast results, but the problem is that many times these results are not sustainable. When you break down your eating habits and look at what the cavemen were able to eat, it just makes sense....at least to me it does. Feeling better and healthier should be a goal with your diet. If your diet is not making you feel good, then it may be time to look at making some changes to your current menu.
To your success,
Nick Simpson

Here's A Great Tasting And Easy Caveman Diet Snack Idea
We all love to snack. The outcome of your health goals can, of course, be greatly varied depending on what you snack on. Some people take each meal very seriously and measure proper portions and even make sure that everything on their plate is something that they should indeed be eating to reach their diet targets. However, to much surprise, most people don't show the same restraint when it comes to snacking throughout the day. This is not a good thing and follow the same lack of logic as eating a huge unhealthy meal with a diet soda on the side....it just doesn't add up!
Mentally snack time is different because of the portion size is obviously smaller and for some this translates to it not counting as much. This could not be further from the truth. When you consider that most children and adults snack 2 - 3 times a day, the type of food definitely matters as these small portions do add up.
If you want to be sure that you are not tempted by snacks that have no nutritional value and that are chocked full of calories, you need to have something different on hand. Keeping healthy snacks near is the only sure way to guarantee that you will turn to them instead of the other stuff. We have a great recipe to share below and if you have these or some other paleo friendly snacks on reserve at home, you will be sure to keep on track with your caveman diet.
Ingredients
2 cups macadamia nuts, 1 tablespoon olive oil, 2 tablespoons agave nectar or honey, ½ teaspoon sea salt
Instructions
Throw everything together in a good sized bowl and mix it all thoroughly. Next put it all in 9-inch x 13-inch baking dish. Now bake at 350° for 10-15 minutes, once they are lightly browned, remove to cool and then serve. These can be stored in zip lock bags for easy snacks when and where you need them.
I hope you enjoy this recipe and make sure to subscribe to our blog as we will be sharing more great ideas for the caveman diet soon!

Simple and yummy, just the way we like it. This recipe is a sure winner for macadamia nut fans. However, you can substitute other nuts with the same great outcome if you don't like macadamia nuts. Why Choose The Caveman Diet Over Others?
Everybody is different and of course, the Paleo Diet is not for everybody. However, if you are going to change your current eating habits, it is very important to make a choice that is one, you can stick with for the long haul. After all, if you decide to start a diet and can't stick with it, you will never make it to the point you will be able to actualize the results and reap the rewards of your new healthy life changes. For many people across the globe, the caveman diet or paleo diet is one that has proven to be successful for sustaining a positive change in their eating habits for good.
I know that there are thousands of diets to choose from. This is why many people find it hard to actually decide which one is right for them and begin. No matter what dietary changes you plan, the first step is most definitely the most important. Some people find "fad" diets very enticing because they offer a gimmick that is at first interesting, but then that "cool" feeling wears off and the ability to maintain the diet dies as well. The caveman diet, on the other hand, offers a real-world approach to eating differently and better.
If you know you want to make a change and are not really sure if the caveman diet is what you have been looking for, take a look at the list below. It will give you a quick reference that may help you make a decision about how to proceed.
